Hugh Harris Scholarship Award Winners

he National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), Gulf Coast Chapter,
in conjunction with the Targets, UAVs and Ranges Division of NDIA, is
pleased to announce this year's winners of the annual Hugh Harris
Scholarship Award.
Each recipient receives a $1000.00 award. The
Scholarship was established in 1992 in honor of Mr. Harris who was a
research and development engineer at Eglin AFB. He was recognized
throughout the Department of Defense and industry for his advanced ideas
and contributions in the development of unmanned aerial target vehicle
systems. Recipients are:

 

Brittany Standley, Niceville High School, graduated in the top 8% of a
class of 570 students. She was selected for "Who's Who Among American
High School Students and was actively involved in the National Honor
Society and an internship at Twin Cities Hospital. Brittany initially
will be attending Okaloosa Walton College enroute to the University of
Florida and will be pursuing a major in chemistry.

 

Jacob Burns, Niceville High School, graduated with a 4.67 (weighted) GPA
and was in the top 3% of a class of 570 students. He was a member of
the National Honor Society, Key Club, and Band and was class President.
He was actively involved in church and community service activities.
Jacob will attend the University of Florida where he plans to major in
Chemistry.

 

Christina Sheperd, Choctawhatchee High School, was a member of the Beta
Club, National Honor Society, and was involved in a large variety of
academic, non-profit and community service activities throughout her
high school career. Her past honors include Fort Walton's Student
Award for Civic Excellence and the District DAR Good Citizen's Award.
Christina had a 4.7 (weighted) GPA and graduated in the top 1% of her
class. She will be attending the University of Florida and plans to
major engineering.

 

Kevin Thompson, Niceville High School, was a member of the National
Honor Society, Marching and Concert Band, and the Math Club. Kevin was
a National Merit Finalist and was in the top 4% of his class with a 4.6
(weighted) GPA. He had a summer internship with the Air Force Munitions
Laboratory and will be attending the University of Florida where he
plans to major in mathematics or mechanical engineering..

 

Jared Spaniol is a former Staff Sergeant in the USAF. He supported the
F-16 aircraft on a number of assignments including Kunsan Air Base,
Korea, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany and Eglin Air Force Base, Florida
where he was a member of the 40th Flight Test Squadron. Jared is
currently in enrolled at Penn State University where he is majoring in
Plastics Engineering Technology and plans to pursue a Master's degree in
Polymer Science.
